Slavery in today’s consumer society

This is the key question addressed by lessons developed for the pre-vocational (VMBO) curriculum in the Netherlands by Stichting YouToday. Two interactive lessons discuss the history of slavery and unfair trade. Pupils are then encouraged to reflect on how, in some supply chains, there is an unfair imbalance of power and what they, as consumers, can do to change the situation. The lessons include a Black Heritage Tour, which revisits the history of slavery in Amsterdam.
